PREPARING FOR YOUR
 YOGA CLASS

FOR ALL CLASSES

  • Asanas should be done on an empty stomach. Allow at least 3 to 4 hours after a heavy meal and half an hour after liquids before practicing. Try not to drink water during the class, if you are very thirsty take a small sip of water and keep it on your tongue.

  • Practice bare feet – you want to feel your feet connected to the earth, as it helps to ground you. It also helps to stimulate the reflexology points in the feet. Wear loose and comfortable clothing- your movements should not be restricted.

  • Life is always going to be busy, if you do not say ‘this is my yoga time now and everything else must wait’ – there will always be something to distract you. If you want to reap all the many wonderful benefits of yoga you practice yoga on a regular basis.

  • If you have made the decision to practice yoga, commit yourself to a specific time to practice daily.

  • The qualities required from a yogi are discipline, tenacity, commitment and perseverance, to practice regularly without interruptions.

  • Remember that yoga helps to remove toxins from the body. Drink enough water after the class to aid the process of detoxification.

  • Patanjali, the father of yoga, defines asana as “Sthiram sukam asanam” which translates as a comfortable and steady position. Always keep this in mind when practising. If you do not feel relaxed and stable in a pose, come out of it and try it from a balanced foundation. Move in a steady, controlled and relaxed way and coordinate your movements with the breath. Do not be afraid to experiment in the asana- make small adjustments in the posture and be aware of the effects.

  • Socks can be worn for some poses but can create a slipping hazard so the teacher will advise when they should be removed.

  • Refrain from applying lotion/creams to body and hands before the class as this can cause slipping.

  • For hygiene purposes we ask that you bring your own yoga mat. We do have spare mats for first time students.

ONLINE VIRTUAL CLASSES

  • Please position your camera approximately 2 meters away to ensure your whole mat and body fit in the frame both lying down and standing up.

  • Once you enter the live stream, please ensure that your video is on. It is very helpful to be able to see and interact with you during the class.

  • When you join the class your microphone will automatically be muted to avoid background noise. If you would like to ask a question, please feel free to unmute.

  • If you are using a phone, I would suggest screen mirroring to a smart TV if you have access to one to make the screen bigger and easier to see.

  • We will start promptly on time. To avoid being late, please try to setup and login at least 15 mins before the class begins.

AERIAL YOGA

  • For comfort in the fabric, you should wear form-fitting clothing that covers your underarms and knees (for example, a form fitting t-shirt and leggings), no shoes required.

  • Please do not wear any sharp jewellery and ensure finger and toe nails are trimmed neatly as the fabric is very delicate and can rip easily.

  • As with your regular practice, it is advised to not have a heavy meal at least 2 hours prior to class but do make sure you have eaten something - if not you will end up feeling very light headed.
  • Try to hydrate well before class as drinking during class may cause discomfort while inverting.
